Fur

“Wildlife photography is more than just taking pictures. It is about connecting with nature and understanding the beauty of the natural world.”

As someone who shares their space with 4 adorable cats, you’d expect my phone camera roll to be full of pictures of the little fur bags, and while not a patch on my wife’s camera roll, you’d be right! As well as looking completely different, they each have their own personality, their individual characteristics, yet all have one thing common, they each have an incredibly communicative face. Trying to capture this with a camera however is different matter due to their inherent contrary nature. This is even more so when you scale up their size by a factor of 10 which introduces claws and teeth capable of tearing you and your camera apart with ease. As I discovered firsthand on the several occasions that I have had the rare privilege of being able to get up close and personal with the beautiful creatures at the Big Cat reserve, under the expert eye of resident photographer Alma Leaper. Let me tell you, when 200 kgs of tiger wants to let you know it’s had enough of you and your camera, you certainly get the message.
